The British Grand Prix is a mainstay of the MotoGP calendar and has seen various riders conquer it over the years.
Silverstone’s 3.6-mile circuit plays host to the seventh round on the calendar, having been the site for the race since the 2010 season.
Prior to that, the British GP used to race at Donington through the late 80s, 90s and early 00s. Silverstone was the site of the first race since it moved from the Isle of Man TT track in 1977.
With that in mind, MotoGP News has taken a look at some of the most successful riders at the British Grand Prix throughout the premier class and MotoGP eras.
Valentino Rossi is the most successful rider at the British Grand Prix
Valentino Rossi has taken the most victories at the British Grand Prix, with a record six wins across the premier 500cc class and MotoGP.
The Italian took his first victory in the premier class in 2000 while riding a Honda at Donington, following on from his first podium earlier in the season at the Spanish Grand Prix.
Rossi would follow it up with another win in 2001, 2002, and then back-to-back victories in 2004 and 2005. He would not take his first win at Silverstone until 2015, by which stage he had switched to Yamaha.
Rossi is the only rider to win the British GP with two different bike manufacturers, while most riders have done it with the same team.
Only eight riders have won the British GP more than once
There have only been eight repeat winners of the British Grand Prix since 1977, with Rossi holding the record with six wins.
Jorge Lorenzo and Casey Stoner have both won three British GPs in the MotoGP era, while Andrea Dovizioso has won it twice in the same era.
