Oakmont weekend weather forecast

With 36 holes remaining at the 2025 U.S. Open, conditions will be markedly different on Saturday than they were in the previous two rounds, as Oakmont endured a deluge of rain overnight on Friday — and there could be more on the way.

The course was playing firm and fast on Thursday and Friday, tormenting the world’s top players with its difficulty. This year’s U.S. Open cut, at seven over par, was the highest U.S. Open cut in nearly 20 years, and one shot higher than the last time the championship was played here in 2016. (In 2007, the cut at Oakmont was 10 over par.)

A full inch of rain fell on Oakmont overnight on Friday, and while that may serve to soften the course’s unforgiving brutality, onsite spectators have a decision to make.

On Saturday morning, the USGA issued the following statement:

Due to significant rainfall overnight, combined with the historic rain experienced in the weeks leading into the Championship, the grounds at Oakmont Country Club are extremely wet heading into the third round of the 125th U.S. Open Championship.

While the golf course handled the weather incredibly well and playing conditions remain championship ready, some areas outside the ropes are very saturated. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of all spectators, access to certain viewing areas of the course will be limited throughout the day.

Please note that today’s forecast has the potential of additional rain, and conditions may continue to evolve throughout the day. We will continue to monitor the weather and communicate any further updates as needed.

IMPORTANT — We want all ticket holders to be aware of these conditions prior to arriving on-site. If they choose not to attend under these circumstances, a full refund will be provided for their Saturday ticket.

Admission gates and hospitality facilities will open today at 8 a.m. as scheduled. For those joining us, we recommend wearing appropriate footwear and using caution while moving around the grounds.

As outlined in the statement above, spectators who opt not to attend Saturday’s round will be offered a full refund for the cost of their ticket. But for those who do make the trek, Saturday’s third round looks to be a bit of a slog. According to Thor Guard meteorologists Will Kellum and Jake Swick’s weekend weather forecast, more rain may threaten Oakmont throughout the weekend.

“Ample cloud coverage today produces periods of additional showers this morning, particularly between 7 to 10 a.m. ET with a few embedded rumbles not out of the question,” the forecast said. “Current models indicate spotty showers and a few thunderstorms could develop throughout the afternoon thanks to the area of low pressure in the Ohio Valley. The hope is that we can settle into some gaps on the radar this afternoon, but like yesterday there will be some unfortunate spots that get heavier rains again today. Conditions overall look less active on Sunday with the primary rain chances holding off until the afternoon hours, however the exact timing and location development remains less than certain. Temps will once again reach the upper 70s and winds will gust over 10 mph at times, especially later in the day.”
