Tuchel would stay beyond World Cup 2026

England manager Thomas Tuchel says it is “an honour to be England coach” and he would be tempted to stay beyond next year’s World Cup despite a difficult week.

Senegal became the first African side to beat the Three Lions at the City Ground on Tuesday night as sections of the crowd jeered England off.

That followed an unconvincing 1-0 win against Andorra which left Tuchel and fans with more questions than answers.

His squad selection, tactics and approach have all been questioned but the former Chelsea boss sounded positive when speaking to Talksport.

Thomas Tuchel reveals that he ALWAYS listens to talkSPORT on the way to matches, so why don’t you?

He said: “I will always be tempted to stay because I love the group and the opportunity, it’s an honour to be England coach. I can tell you that even after the disappointment yesterday.

“If you ask me today, yes I would stay. I am enjoying it, I feel the support, trust and respect of people in the FA. I wanted a new challenge and environment.

“[I love] the chance to be close to the Premier League, but also to update myself and to have input from various people, from rugby, from Royal Air Force, how to build teams and rhythm.

“To have a chance to pick a squad without the transfer period. It’s the right challenge for me at the moment, it’s clear that it’s a big challenge but I love it.”

Tuchel only signed an 18-month contract when he replaced Gareth Southgate and has been brought in to try and win the World Cup being held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The 51-year-old says he is still finding the right mix and defended picking Kyle Walker and Jordan Henderson.

He said: “I already have an idea of what to do. I am convinced that the first camp was a big success but this time the two games were not good enough.

“Gareth Southgate and Lee Carsley tried to bring the talent together. I am trying now and still we feel we are lacking the enthusiasm and joy consistently on international level.

“It’s on us to find the right mix, the right chemistry in the team, we haven’t done this yet.

“Sending Jordan Henderson home at the moment is not an option, because he brings the best out of other players and has a huge impact in the camp.”
