Trent Alexander-Arnold displayed his commitment to the Real Madrid cause by speaking in perfect Spanish at his presentation this morning.
The England international has joined Madrid on a cut-price £10million deal – pushed through to enable him to play at the Club World Cup – after an acrimonious exit from Liverpool which saw him booed by fans for opting to leave Anfield.
And it unlikely his new linguistic skills will go down well on Merseyside.
Alexander-Arnold has clearly been practising for some time in order to make a good impression at his new club.
The 26-year-old said: “Good afternoon, thank you for giving me this opportunity. Signing for a club like Real Madrid doesn’t happen every day. I’m very happy. I really want to show my game to the Madrid fans.
“I am aware that I have a great responsibility, but I am ready to give everything. I really want to win many titles and be a champion and grow and enjoy with the best. Thank you and Hala Madrid!”

Perez welcomes “Liverpool legend” Trent
Madrid president Florentino Perez also spoke and gave Alexander-Arnold a warm welcome.
Perez said: “Welcome to Real Madrid a player who has won everything and who is one of the best defenders in the world.
“At Liverpool he has become a legend and wants to continue his history in Madrid.
“I want to express our gratitude to you because we know what it means to you to play for Real Madrid. We will never forget it. You arrive from Liverpool, a club dear to us. You have won nine titles at Anfield. All this in 354 games.
“You must be proud of everything you have achieved both at Liverpool and with England. Your family has been in all these stages of your life, we know what they mean to you. They represent work and effort. They are here to accompany you on one of the most exciting days of your life.”

Bellingham union excites Perez
Alexander-Arnold will play alongside his great friend and England team-mate Jude Bellingham next season.
“You are already part of Real Madrid. It is the most beloved and decorated club in the world, the club of 15 European Cups. Your talent and capacity for sacrifice lead you to the conviction that you are going to achieve here. The Bernabéu awaits you, there you will live unique moments. Its magic will make you fall in love.
“In Madrid you will find a big family. There’s a great friend of yours: Bellingham. In addition to being great players, they are all Madrid fans. You will soon understand what Madrid is. Our next challenge is the Club World Cup.”
