Sheffield Wednesday have been prevented from signing players for transfer fees for the next three windows as the row over unpaid wages continues.
The Championship club were hit with the ban this morning after the EFL confirmed they had missed payment deadlines for wages between July 2024 and June 2025.

It means Wednesday, who finished 12th in the second tier last season under Danny Rohl, cannot pay a fee for a player until the January window opens in 2027.
An EFL statement read: “The EFL can confirm that Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is now subject to a three-window fee restriction after exceeding 30 days of late payments between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025.
“In accordance with EFL Regulations, the restriction will cover the entirety of this summer’s window and two full windows thereafter (Winter 2026 and Summer 2026).
“The Club has notified the EFL of its intention to appeal this decision and this will be heard in due course.
“Separately, on 3 June 2025, the EFL issued charges against the Club and owner Mr Dejphon Chansiri in respect of non-payment of Player wages in March 2025 and May 2025. This matter is being considered by an Independent Disciplinary Commission, and because of the ongoing proceedings, the League is unable to comment further at this time.”
Fans want Chansiri out
Although the news was widely expected it will do little to quell the anger towards Chansiri, who has fought a running battle with fans desperate for him to sell the club.
In September 2023, he issued an inflammatory statement in which he wrote: “If you say you are the owner and I am the custodian, then show me how to be the good owner and help save your club.
“If you want me to leave, then show me how to run the club and invest the money before I do that. You have no right to ask me to leave.”
