On Friday night May 2nd in the third main event of the Fatal Fury: City of Wolves card that took place at New York’s historic Times Square intersection, Rolando “Rolly” Romero (17-2, 13, KOs) shocked the world when he defeated Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) via unanimous decision.

Coming into the bout, Rolly Romero was listed as a 7-1 underdog. Romero put the boxing fans on notice in the second round when he landed a double left hook that sent Garcia down to the canvas. Fortunately for Garcia, he was able to get up and make it out of the round.
For the remainder of the fight, Romero was able to neutralize Garcia’s offense while consistently landing his shots. At the conclusion of the 12-round contest, Rolly Romero earned a unanimous decision victory by the scores of (115-112, 115-112, and 118-109).
The Fatal Fury: City of Wolves event was supposed to be a showcase opportunity for Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia. The initial plan was for Haney and Garcia to perform well in their individual matches, and then go on to have their rematch later this year.
Obviously, Rolly Romero didn’t get the memo, as he proceeded to outbox Garcia and cruise his way to an upset victory. Since Romero played the spoiler role, it would make perfect sense for Romero to take Ryan Garcia’s spot.
A Devin Haney versus Rolly Romero fight would be an interesting battle for later this year. The way Haney looked against Ramirez, one would assume Rolly Romero would have a solid chance of winning the fight, but a fight against Haney is something that Rolly doesn’t want.
During a interview with TMZ Sports, Romero spoke about his victory over Ryan Garcia and he also spoke on his lack of interest in regards to a potential matchup with Devin Haney.
“Haney wasn’t a big fight to begin with. He wasn’t in a big fight when he fought Ryan. And he’s definitely not a big fight after he just became a track star,” Romero said. “You tell me, real quick, are you excited to see anybody fight Devin Haney?!”
Rolly’s track star quote stems from Haney’s May 2nd bout against Jose Ramirez. For the majority of the 12-round fight, Devin Haney was using lateral movement, circling the ring while throwing mostly one single punch at a time.
Coming off the biggest win of his pro career, the 29-year-old Rolando “Rolly” Romero has multiple options available. In the near future, Romero would like to participate in another pay-per-view fight against a big-name opponent.
