Marc Marquez impressed Ducati general manager Luigi Dall’Igna after salvaging the Sprint Race win at the Aragon Grand Prix, despite his poor launch from pole position.
The 32-year-old has once again proven why MotorLand Aragon is one of his best tracks this weekend, after Marquez scored his seventh Aragon GP pole so far. He will now hope to turn pole into the win this Sunday for the Spaniard’s fourth double of the 2025 MotoGP season.
Marquez has already enjoyed Sprint and Grand Prix glory since joining Ducati from Gresini in Thailand, Argentina and Qatar. Yet the championship leader would not win either of the last three Grands Prix, so Marquez will keep the top step of the Aragon GP podium in his sights.
Ducati chief Dall’Igna even had to watch Marquez fight back for the win in the Aragon Sprint on Saturday after a poor start. Gresini rider Alex Marquez, VR46 pilot Franco Morbidelli and KTM racer Pedro Acosta all got the jump on the six-time premier class champion into Turn 1.
Luigi Dall’Igna praises Marc Marquez’s ‘very smart’ approach to win the Aragon Sprint
Dall’Igna feels Marquez got a poor start to the Aragon Sprint because his rear tyre slipped as the Cervera native got away. It even led to a slightly controversial incident at T1, as Marquez lifted his elbow towards Acosta at the start of the Aragon Sprint after he was taken out wide.

But Marquez impressed Dall’Igna with how the Ducati rider then managed the Aragon Sprint to salvage the win. The Spaniard immediately passed Acosta on the exit of Turn 1, before he overtook Morbidelli at T1 at the start of Lap 2/11 plus his brother Alex Marquez at T7 on L6.
Dall’Igna told AS: “He didn’t struggle more than expected, but clearly the rear tyre slipped at the start and lost him several positions. He then knew how to build up the race.
“Overtaking isn’t easy and, for me, he was very smart not to push it in the early laps because that’s when he takes more risks. He raced without rushing. A short race is also long.”
Marc Marquez is the first MotoGP rider to breach 200 points in 2025 after winning the Aragon Sprint
Marquez has now scored seven pole positions, six Grand Prix wins and two Sprint Race wins at MotorLand Aragon in his MotoGP career after pole and the win in Saturday’s 11-lap event in Alcaniz. He will now try to repeat the Aragon GP double Marquez did with Gresini in 2024.
It was at the 2024 Aragon GP when Marquez won his first Sprint and Grand Prix on a Ducati after joining Gresini last term. Now, MotorLand can be the first circuit where Marquez takes Sprint and Grand Prix wins for two Ducati teams after stepping into the factory crew in 2025.
Beating his brother, Alex Marquez, to win the 2025 Aragon Sprint with a calm approach that impressed Dall’Igna even stretched Marc Marquez’s lead over the Gresini racer in the riders’ standings to 27 points. He is the first rider to breach the 200-point mark this term with 208.
