Kyle Walker admits he would trade Premier League title to lift silverware with Tottenham

Kyle Walker has revealed he would willingly give up one of his Premier League winners’ medals with Manchester City if it meant he could have lifted the Europa League with former club Tottenham.

The veteran right-back spent the early years of his career at Spurs, during a time when the team were regularly mocked for their inability to win trophies.

Despite an eight-year stint in North London, silverware eluded him during his time there.

Tottenham recently ended their 17-year trophy drought by overcoming Manchester United in Bilbao. The moment saw Heung-Min Son, Walker’s former team-mate, hoist the trophy, bringing long-awaited success to the club.

Now 35, Walker admits the sight of Spurs’ triumph stirred up a sense of envy, strong enough that he’d be happy to forfeit one of his Premier League titles just to have experienced that kind of glory with the club.

Speaking on his own Kyle Walker Podcast, the England international said: “I’d probably give up one Premier League title, not the first, to have won that Europa League with Tottenham.

“I know what it means. I’d probably give my second, it’s hard to give one away, but for what that moment meant. To be in that Spurs squad that won a trophy.”

Walker arrived at White Hart Lane in 2009 after progressing through the ranks at Sheffield United. He was a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s team, which featured future England stars like Harry Kane, Dele Alli andf Danny Rose.

The side came close to success, finishing second in the Premier League in 2016-17, but ultimately never got across the finish line.

He was the first among that core group to move on, deciding in 2017 that his ambitions were better served at Manchester City.

At City, Walker has amassed an enviable haul of six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four Carabao Cups, and a Champions League trophy- far more than any of his old Spurs team-mates.

By contrast, Kane had to wait until 2025 for his first major honour after moving to Bayern Munich, while Son has only just lifted his first European title with Spurs.

Despite his impressive CV, Walker now finds himself at a crossroads.

After spending the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan, the Italian club opted not to take up a permanent deal.

With just a year remaining on his contract, the right-back is expected to return to Manchester City for pre-season, although Pep Guardiola’s squad appears to be evolving past him.
