Canadian Grand Prix Contract Extended to 2035

Formula 1 will continue to race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve until at least 2035 following the signing of a new extension with Canadian Grand Prix organisers.

The Canadian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2035. The promoter, Octane Racing Group, and the Governments of Canada and Québec signed a new four-year extension of the existing deal.

The Montreal race – held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve since 1978 – signed a long-term deal in March 2017, which secured its position on the schedule until at least 2029. Having missed races in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, race organisers signed a further two-year deal in April 2021.

News of the Canadian Grand Prix’s contract extension through to 2035 comes just days after the 2025 event, which was won from pole position by George Russell. The weekend was attended by 352,000 spectators, a slight increase on the previous year’s figure.

The 2030s will mark Montreal’s seventh decade on the Formula 1 calendar, having hosted 44 races to date in its tenure as host of the Canadian Grand Prix. The event has been on the calendar for longer, having been staged at the Mont-Tremblant and Mosport Park circuits prior to its arrival at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali noted the upgrades made to the Montreal track in recent years when speaking about the new contract:

“As Formula 1 celebrates its 75th anniversary, it is fitting that we have announced an extension with the Canadian Grand Prix, a race that has such incredible history in our sport and is named after a true legend in Gilles Villeneuve. Montréal is an incredible city, full of energy and passionate fans, and I am delighted to confirm that we will continue racing here through to the 2035 season and that our media rights deal with Bell Media is also extending in the long term. I would like to thank the promoter, Octane Racing Group, for their continued efforts in upgrading this iconic venue in recent years, and all local, regional, and national political stakeholders who have worked closely together to make this event what it is today. I would also like to thank our incredible Canadian fans. I look forward to creating more unforgettable moments in Montréal with you over the next 10 years.”

17 Circuits Signed Up Into 2030s

Last year, Canadian Grand Prix organisers reached an agreement with Formula 1 which sees their race move from its traditional June slot to the third or fourth weekend in May from 2026 onwards. The move was made to pair the Canadian race with the Miami Grand Prix, held in early May, thus eliminating the need for an additional transatlantic transportation of freight.

Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is the 17th Formula 1 circuit to confirm its tenure on the calendar into the next decade. An announcement about the future of the Las Vegas Grand Prix is also expected imminently. The Vegas race is out of contract at the end of this year but appeared on the 2026 F1 calendar unveiled last week. Las Vegas race organisers told media at the Canadian Grand Prix that a two-year extension has been agreed upon for now, though F1 already has permission to continue racing on the Las Vegas Strip until at least 2032.

The 2026 Canadian Grand Prix will take place on May 22-24. Tickets are likely to go on sale in July. Subscribe to our mailing list below to be notified of further event news and ticket updates.
