George Kambosos Sr. Promises “Guerrilla Warfare” For Richardson Hitchins Fight On June 14th

George Kambosos Sr. says his son, Kambosos Kr. (22-3, 10 KOs), is going to be using “Guerrilla warfare” to make it a rough night for IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) on Saturday night, June 14th, in their headliner at The Theater in New York City.

Kambosos’ “Guerrilla Warfare” Plan

Kambosos Jr. plans to use the slash-and-burn approach to defeat Hitchins, making life miserable for him on the battlefield by applying pressure and utilizing his power game to defeat him—Hitchins-Kambosos headline on DAZN in a Matchroom-promoted show. The event starts at 7:00 P.M. ET/4:00 P.M. PT. Kambosos intends on being utterly ruthless.

Hitchins’ Superstar Delusions

“A lot of things he says feels like he’s trying to motivate himself, trying to make himself bigger than he actually is,” said George Kambosos Jr. to DAZN Boxing, talking about Richardson Hitchins. “I know what’s coming.  A lot of the back of the head in heaps. Very dirty.”

It appears that Hitchins is under the impression that because he holds the IBF 140-lb title, he’s now on the cusp of becoming a superstar, and will be given the red carpet treatment along with the invites to Turki Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season cards. However, Hitchins has the wrong style, given that he’s a runner like Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.

He’s not a superstar, and he can’t will himself into becoming one unless he changes his fighting style and beats the murderers’ row of fighters at 140 and 147. He’s trying to skip that part and talk his way into becoming a star. That’s the lazy approach.

Kambosos Sr. Details Dirty Plan

“That’s the key shot. The right elbow. That’s what we’ve been working on. Low blows, right elbow and headbutts,” said Kambosos Sr. “That’s how we win in the fight. Guerilla warfare on the night. No rules on the night. That’s it. That’s all we’re doing. It’s going to be dirty. You watch and see.”

Kambosos may have to make it a dirty fight for him to have a shot at winning, because Hitchins is going to use a lot of movement and holding, just like Devin Haney did when he fought George twice.

In Hitchins’ last fight against Liam Paro, he looked to the referee for help each time he made it rough with rabbit punches and low blows. He’ll probably do that on Saturday night if Kambosos Jr. does choose to foul. He may have to be willing to lose points if he’s going to succeed with his roughhouse approach.

“Yes, he’s a good boxer, but he’ done good boxing against guys that haven’t been at this level. I’m going into my sixth world title fight. This is his second. He hasn’t been at the level I’ve been in. That’s what makes me different. I have more dog in me, fast hands, and I’ll win this fight,” said Kambosos.

Hitchins’ Weak Opponent Record

Hitchins’ best wins:

– Liam Paro
– Gustavo Lemos
– Jose Zepeda
– John Bauza
– Yomar Alamo
– Argenis Mendiz

Except for Paro, Hichins hasn’t beaten any notable opposition during his career. That makes it difficult to know whether he’s good or just another paper champion. When Hitchins had the chance to prove himself against Subriel Matias and Gary Antuanne Russell, he chose not to fight them. He wanted bigger names.

“This boy ain’t going to beat you,” said Kambosos Sr.

“People ask me, ‘Who are you fighting? Train hard.’ ‘Hitchins. Do you know Hitchins?’ “No,’” said Kamabosos Jr, “I’m used to, ‘Who are you fighting’ ‘Lomachenko.’ ‘Oh, wow. Haney, wow. Lopez. Hitchins.’ No one knows you,” said Kambosos.

The eight-year pro Hitchins hasn’t been given the big push by his promoters like other fighters who had outstanding amateur careers, because he didn’t come from that background. His record as an amateur was 35-12. As a pro, Hitchins has been overlooked because he lacks an entertaining style and rarely scores knockouts. Some compare Hitchins to Shakur Stevneson and Devin Haney, viewing him as a blend of the two. That’s not good.
