Scotland were booed off at Hampden Park after losing 3-1 to Iceland on Friday night, while Italy also suffered a tough loss to Norway.

Meanwhile, Wales put in a dominant display against Liechtenstein and the Republic of Ireland managed a draw against Senegal.

Italy’s World Cup qualifying campaign took a hit after losing heavily to Norway, as did Belgium’s with the Red Devils only able to draw with North Macedonia.

Read on to discover the best of Friday night’s action.

Scotland fell to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at home to Iceland on Friday night.

The away side struck first after just eight minutes, Gudjohnsen curling a superb left-footed strike into the top corner.

Scotland responded well and equalised in the 25th minute through John Souttar, who nodded home from a Max Johnston corner.

However, Iceland regained the lead just before the break when Lewis Ferguson inadvertently turned the ball into his own net under pressure from another Icelandic corner.

Despite several attacking substitutions and spells of second-half pressure, Scotland couldn’t find a way back into the match.

George Hirst had a goal ruled out for offside after a VAR check, and Che Adams saw multiple efforts blocked or saved.

Iceland made it 3-1 in the 52nd minute when Victor Palsson rose highest to power in a header from Albert Gudmundsson’s set-piece delivery.

Wales cruised to a 3-0 victory over Liechtenstein in their World Cup qualifier in Cardiff.

The breakthrough came in the 39th minute when Joe Rodon rose highest to power home a header from Sorba Thomas’ corner, giving the hosts a deserved lead after a sustained period of pressure.

Wales continued to control the tempo in the second half, and their advantage was doubled just past the hour mark.

Jay Dasilva delivered a pinpoint cross for Harry Wilson, who guided a well-placed header into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

The win was sealed minutes later when Kieffer Moore tapped in from close range following a rebound, capping off a sharp attacking move.

The Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw by Senegal in a lively international friendly in Dublin.

Kasey McAteer opened the scoring for the hosts in the 21st minute, pouncing from close range after Nathan Collins had nodded a corner back across goal.

It was a deserved lead for Ireland, who looked sharp early on and created several chances through Will Smallbone and Jack Taylor.

Senegal responded after the break, growing into the game with a string of substitutions, injecting fresh energy.

Their pressure eventually paid off in the 82nd minute when Ismaila Sarr reacted quickest to a rebound, slotting home from close range after Caoimhin Kelleher had denied Cherif Ndiaye moments earlier.

Norway recorded their first win over Italy in 25 years with a commanding 3-0 victory in Oslo, extending their lead at the top of Group I in World Cup qualifying.

Despite Italy’s early possession dominance, it was the hosts who struck first.

A loose cross-field pass from Bastoni was intercepted by Moller Wolfe, who found Antonio Nusa. The winger danced through midfield before slipping in Alexander Sorloth to finish smartly at Donnarumma’s near post in the 14th minute.

Norway doubled their lead 20 minutes later. Nusa, again central, received a cushioned pass from Thorsby after a long Nyland clearance and tore through a disjointed Italian defence before lashing home from the edge of the area.

The rout was complete before half-time. In the 42nd minute, Odegaard slid a through ball to Erling Haaland, who rounded Donnarumma to slot into an empty net for his 41st international goal.

Italy offered little in response, registering their first shot on target in the 92nd minute.

With 62% possession but just 0.21 xG, they were comfortably outclassed.
