Antonio Cordero believes he is heading to “one of the best places in the world” to meet his lofty aspirations after signing for Newcastle United.
The Spanish winger will join Newcastle in July when his contract with Segunda side Malaga expires, subject to the completion of the Premier League’s registration process.
Newcastle reportedly beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the signature of the Spain Under-19 international.
The Magpies plan to loan Cordero out once the move is completed, with Eredivisie giants Ajax said to be a potential destination for the teenager.
While his immediate future will not be spent at St James’ Park, Cordero is confident moving to Newcastle is one that will allow him to achieve his ambitions.
“It’s truly an honour to be here, truly a pleasure,” Cordero told Newcastle’s official website.
“I am a person who likes to aspire high. Why not come to one of the best places in the world to do it.
“It’s a big step, and that’s one of the reasons I’m here. I’m happy to do it and have a great desire to get going already.
“I’m a very ambitious person and I don’t have specific numbers, I just want to go for them all and try to achieve the maximum.
“I want to win all the possible trophies in the long run, but I’m aware that the hard work has to be done in order to achieve that.”

Cordero scored the goal that secured Malaga’s promotion back to Spain’s second-tier in a play-off final against Gimnastic Tarragona at the end of the 2023-24 season, netting in the 121st minute in extra time of the second leg to settle the tie.
And he impressed in the Segunda as Malaga comfortably avoided relegation, scoring six goals and providing six assists.
Newcastle’s outgoing sporting director Paul Mitchell said: “Antonio is an exciting talent. We’re delighted to bring him to Newcastle United amidst interest in Spain and across Europe.
“He has lots of potential, and the next phase of his development will be for the club to select a loan move that will challenge him and build on his experiences.”
