Marc Marquez is the favourite for the 2025 MotoGP title and has a commanding lead at the top of the standings.
However, his rivals are catching and are part of the reason why he has failed to win any of the last three Grands Prix for Ducati. At one stage, it looked like Marquez had a shout of winning every race this season, but they have been pegged back by their rivals and the GP25 has shown signs of weakness.
Particularly in cold and windy conditions at the British Grand Prix, the Desmosedici seemed to be the most difficult bike of all to keep on the straight and narrow. The quickest of the Italian manufacturer’s riders appeared to be Alex Marquez all weekend, but he backed off in the race over fears of crashing for a second time.
Neil Hodgson thinks Marc is using Alex in a ‘bizarre’ tactic to pull away from teammate Francesco Bagnaia in the championship. He doesn’t appear too fazed by the threat of his own brother currently, but their rivals are approaching.
Despite their battles, Marc is ‘even more tight’ with Alex in 2025, and that could offer them an advantage if they are faced with external competition later in the campaign. The likes of Honda and Yamaha now look like competing for race victories at most weekends.
Marc Marquez plans to tell his mother Alex is ‘happy’ if he wins the MotoGP title
Gresini were ‘scared’ of signing Marquez, but their decision was proven to be right almost immediately as he won three races and received a promotion to Ducati’s factory team. Now, he’s in line to break Valentino Rossi’s record of being the oldest title winner of all time at 32.
His mother, Roser Alenta, has insisted that she would prefer Alex to win the 2025 MotoGP title. Both brothers have made it clear that they are happy to see each other win.
“Today I’m going to Cervera and I’m going to have dinner with my mother, I’m going to ask her to see what happens with this that she wants Alex to win,” he told the Spanish edition of Motorsport.com.
“It’s understandable, it’s a saying, my mother always says that the little one wins because he has won less, but he’s just as happy for my victories as he is for his, as I’m happy for Alex’s and he’s mine.
“That makes us more united than ever and we continue to grow and help each other to be first and second in the best championship in the world, MotoGP.”

Why Alex Marquez could be in a better position than Marc Marquez in 2025
After seeing Marc struggle on the GP25 recently, Alex will have been licking his lips at the potential of being the lead Ducati.
He’s at one with the GP24, which proved itself to be a very good bike last year, while the GP25 may be subject to more developments.
If it has problems within, it’s hard to see the situation getting any better for Francesco Bagnaia or Marquez. They might be riding wounded for the rest of the year.
Especially in colder conditions, that could then open the door for the GP24 riders, and those on rival bikes to steal some good results.
That’s unless a usually dominant Ducati team can find a solution for their woes before the winter, which would be a remarkable effort.
