If there’s one key to producing crisp, powerful strikes, it’s getting your pressure to the front side as you swing through impact. A lot of golfers think they do it, but, for the most part, the majority of rec players simply lean into their front side, leaving the rest of their body behind. That simply won’t work.

Here’s a drill we use at my schools (dewsweepersgolf.com) that’ll help you feel what it’s like to get to your front side. It requires the use of a buddy and an elastic band, but it works wonders. Secure the end of one side of the band under your grip while your pal holds the other end standing a few feet away along your target line. Make your swing. As you move through impact and beyond, you should feel the tension ramping up in the band, forcing you to really work into your release to get on your front side, like you see Morgan Hale doing below.

We call it Push, Turn and Stretch — your keys for delivering the club and releasing it like mad to hit the ball a country mile. Make five to 10 swings with the band to exaggerate the feel, then hit balls like normal — and tell me if you don’t feel the difference.
