Understanding F1 Betting Markets

When placing Formula 1 bets, it is important to understand the F1 betting markets and odds to get the most out of your bets.

The most popular way to get involved with F1 betting is to pick who you think will be the winner of the race. There are also opportunities to bet on the driver’s championship and the winning constructor! We have included more popular Formula One betting markets below and how F1 odds work:

  • Fastest Qualifier
  • Race Winner
  • Podium Finish
  • Top 6 Finish
  • Points Finish
  • Ante-post

If you want to place a Formula 1 bet on Lando Norris to win the race, it will look like this:

This means that if bettors were to place a £4 bet, they would get £7 back, plus their original stake, if the McLaren driver goes on to take the race victory.

Monaco Grand Prix Recap

The Monaco Grand Prix saw Lando Norris take his first-ever win in the Principality, completing what he called a ‘childhood dream’.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, the home hero, pushed him all the way to the finish, coming home in second. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri crossed the line in third, ensuring to keep that championship battle incredibly tight at the top.

Max Verstappen pitted on the last lap to meet the mandatory pit stops and tyre compound requirements, resulting in him coming home in fourth. Lewis Hamilton finished fifth, with the best results for both RB drivers of the season so far, as Isack Hadjar finished sixth, and Liam Lawson eighth. Esteban Ocon came seventh, with Alex Albon in ninth, and Carlos Sainz claiming the final points position, finishing 10th.

The three different tyre compounds and two mandatory pit stops caused a stir. Some opted for their first stop on the first lap, while others played the team game, holding up the other drivers to create a big enough gap for a pit stop. This caused tension between Mercedes and Williams, with their races over before they began following a disappointing qualifying.

George Russell cut the corner to take the penalty after driving behind Alex Albon’s Williams out of frustration. The Mercedes driver joked after the race that sprinklers are the only way to make Monaco more interesting. Following this year’s Monaco Grand Prix, the FIA must go back to the drawing board with more than mandatory pit stops needed for it to be a fair race.

Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying Preview

Getting a good lap in Barcelona is absolutely crucial for the best chances in Sunday’s race. In what could be the final time we see the circuit on the calendar, it is set to be quite the spectacle.

Following Charles Leclerc’s qualifying performance in Monaco, Ferrari is one of the teams expected to be in top form on Saturday, battling with McLaren for the front places on the grid.

New rules on ‘flexi wings’ will be introduced at the ninth race of the season, which brings us to Barcelona. This could lead to mixed qualifying, with many believing this to be a huge turning point in the season. It is also a track that often sees teams bringing upgrades, which could impact the results of qualifying.

Winners so far this season:

  • Australian GP – Lando Norris
  • Chinese GP – Oscar Piastri
  • Japanese GP – Max Verstappen
  • Bahrain GP – Oscar Piastri
  • Saudi Arabia GP – Oscar Piastri
  • Miami GP – Oscar Piastri
  • Emilia Romagna GP – Max Verstappen
  • Monaco GP – Lando Norris
