Rocco Mediate and Johnny Wunder testing Cobra’s DS-Adapt metal woods.
GOLF
You needn’t search long nor hard to find videos of Tour players hitting, testing and dishing feedback on the latest and greatest gear. But something you don’t often see is Tour players hitting all the gear that the leading manufacturers have to offer: not just the better-player and Tour clubs but also game-improvement, super game-improvement and anything in between.
In our new series, Tour Tested, we’ll do just that, with a pair of pro-testers: Rocco Mediate, who won six times on the PGA Tour and now plays on the PGA Tour Champions, and Charles Howell III, who has won three times on Tour and now plays for LIV Golf. Mediate and Howell both are equipment “free agents,” meaning they can speak freely about any and all club brands; their opinions are their own. (To keep the testing consistent, all the clubs will be built to our testers’ specs.)
For our debut episode, we asked Rocco to demo Cobra Golf DS-Adapt metal-wood line, including the DS-Adapt X, LS and K drivers and the X and LS fairway woods.
All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team.

Cobra DS-Adapt X Custom Driver
NEW FUTUREFIT33 ADJUSTABLE HOSEL
The FutureFit33 system features 33 unique loft & lie settings to unlock more customization options than ever before. For the first time, loft & lie can be adjusted +/- 2 degrees independently from each other, allowing for more fine-tuned fitting customization. The innovative SMARTPAD design enables the face angle to remain square regardless of the setting.
MORE EXTREME AERO DESIG
An improved aero shape features a higher crown peak, and a more streamlined shape with smoother curvatures for further drag reduction and maximized speed.
TOUR INSPIRED SHAPING
A refined clubhead shape features an elevated look at address that promotes workability and control with added forgiveness.
NEW INTERNAL ADAPTIVE WEIGHTING SYSTEM
A re-engineered PWR-BRIDGE weight (in the 9.0 driver) is shaped with a slight curvature to position the CG lower and more forward to reduce spin for increased speed creation.
LARGER H.O.T. FACE INSERT
A larger forged face insert with H.O.T. face technology delivers improved face flex for more robust distance and ball speeds.
BLEND OF FORGIVENESS & SPIN CONTROL
A back weight is accompanied by a second forward weight, allowing for additional spin-tuning control.

For all of Rocco’s feedback, check out the video below. But here are a few quick takeaways:
—The DS Adapt X head is not only fast and forgiving but it also falls in that fun low-spin to mid-spin category that seems to be the trend on Tour and among better players. Comp models from other brands, in my opinion, would be Titleist GT2, TaylorMade Qi35 core, Callaway TD Max and Ping 440 LST.
—Fairways offered the same result; the Adapt X head launched higher with ball speed and the spin window stayed in a place, harmonizing with the trusty soft draw Rocco hits with every club in his bag. There’s a lesson in that: If you have a natural shot shape, build your bag to hit that shot with every club. By having one ball flight through the bag, Rocco eliminates a ton of variables.
Hope you enjoy. Much more testing to come!
